About Jo 〰️

Often, a lot of attention is paid to the physical changes that pregnancy brings — but what about the emotional and psychological ones? As an expectant mother, I often wondered why these areas were overlooked given how challenging the transition into motherhood or parenthood can be. Alongside a new capacity for joy, many people also experience a sense of loss or shifting identity that can ebb and flow.

With support from attachment-trained practitioners, the wisdom of mothers who came before me, and expanding scientific research, I found my grounding in motherhood.

I aim to support mothers in the early stages of pregnancy onwards. This includes exploring the emotional and psychological changes that begin long before birth, and understanding how they uniquely apply to you. Drawing on my background in attachment theory, I can also guide you through the core principles of secure attachment from pregnancy through to the early years. Developing a secure attachment lays the foundation for a child’s long-term emotional wellbeing. It also supports mothers (and parents more broadly) by fostering greater confidence, reducing stress and anxiety, and nurturing a deeper sense of connection and joy in the relationship.

How I Work

As an attachment-based psychotherapist I am to develop safety in sessions, to enable exploration of areas that are important to you.

I offer single sessions for focused support, or we can discuss a therapy length that feels right for you. For work specifically around pregnancy and attachment, I typically recommend 4–8 sessions, with the option to extend if needed. The sessions can be a mixture of psycho-education and personal reflections.

Specialist Areas

As a trained psychotherapist, I also welcome conversations about any other aspects of your motherhood journey you may wish to reflect on. I work with fathers, parents, and caregivers as well. Work around attachment is possible at any stage of the parenting journey.

Fees

My session fee is £125. I am able to offer a reduced rate depending on your circumstances and my availability.
